Correct Original Ames Dragoon Sword Dated 1855

Engraved at the ricasso “N. P. AMES, CUTLER, SPRINGFIELD, 1855” and with engraved inscription on the opposite side of the blade “UNITED STATES” over a floral spray…The quill back blade is in very good condition as is the brass hilted handle which retains its original leather grip covering with twisted brass wire…The steel sheath shows heavy use, wear and cleaning as illustrated…Profuse nspector stamps on the blade, hilt and sheath…A fine early U.S. cavalry sword.
