Japanese Meiji Bronze SAMURAI Figure Group MIYAO EISUKE
Antique Meiji Period Japanese Bronze SAMURAI Figural Group Signed MIYAO EISUKE…
A magnificent quality antique Japanese parcel gilt bronze figure grouping on a gilded wood base…An upright Samurai figure with raised arms stands on the back of a defeated enemy whose face is contorted in agony…Each figure is signed on a gilt plaque (I believe this reads Miyao Eisuke) on the reverse.
The two figures are approximately 18 inches tall not including the wood base…Thumb is damaged on top figure’s hand otherwise bronzes are as shown-untouched and uncleaned with a deep rich patina…There was originally another figure or object being held aloft now missing…The modeling and execution of this bronze exemplifies the finest work produced during the late 1900s in the Meiji era.
