WWII German “25” Panzer Assault Badge in Silver (Panzerkampfabzeichen), an authentic wartime numbered panzer assault badge in very fine condition; the badge is not maker marked..
Originally awarded in only one tier, the further course of the war finally made it necessary to create higher levels for the tank combat badge (both silver and bronze). This was due to the fact that more and more members of the tank troops and their subordinate units had exceeded the conditions for awarding the tank combat badge. With a decree of 22 June 1943, the High Command of the Army finally approved its introduction. The level division created by this was:
- Level: Tank Combat Badge
- Level: Tank Combat Badge with Deployment Number 25
- Level: Tank Combat Badge with Deployment Number 50
- Level: Tank Combat Badge with Deployment Number 75
- Level: Tank Battle Badge with Deployment Number 100
From then on, the tank combat badge in silver was reserved for the tank crews of the tank units and the tank combat badge in bronze for the tank crews of the tank reconnaissance units. Members of the assault gun units, the assault tank units and the tank destroyer units of the tank destroyer divisions were only awarded the general assault badge.
